The Christiana Riot was a very gruesome event in the Underground Railroad. The events took place outside of a man named William Parker's house near the village of Christiana in southeast Pennsylvania. William Parker and a group of African Americans started shooting at a man named Edward Gorsuch and other white slave catchers. They had been catching slaves right outside Parker's house, they ended up killing Gorsuch and pro-slavery Southerners used the event to argue that slavery was necessary to prevent more deaths.
